Avengers thanksgiving

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving.

Whether you’re taking today to feast, enjoy the company of friends and family, or just prepare for Black Friday, I find one of the most valuable parts of thanksgiving is an optional day set aside to be grateful for what’s good in your life, whatever it may be. I’ve been very blessed this year and, though plenty of things have disappointed, it’s been a good time to be a fan of comics. So I thought I’d take a moment and give thanks for a couple of things that have made me happy to be a part of the comics community in the last year.

I’m grateful for:

  1. Nick Spenser’s Superior Foes of Spider-Man
  2. The increased awareness of harassment at comic conventions.
  3. The really great Transformers comics that IDW is putting out right now.
  4. The amazing good fortune that let me spend a weekend working on my writing skills with J.M. DeMatteis and a group of lovely, talented writers
  5. Grace Randolph’s Supurbia (come back soon)
  6. Tony Bedard’s Beowulf (come back soon)
  7. That Thor: The Dark World managed to salvage Loki after the mess The Avengers made of his character
  8. Sara Richard’s Kitty and Dino
  9. That Scott Lobdell ended his Red Hood and the Outlaws run on a high note and passed the torch into James Tynion IV’s capable hands before he stuck his foot down his throat again
  10. My position at Weekly Comic Book Review
  11. My lovely editor at Weekly Comic Book Review who let me go to New York Comic Con for free
  12. The love and dedication of fans and creators who hang in there and fight for better representation in their comics.
  13. That I finally read Saga
  14. Michael Alan Nelson’s Supergirl
  15. And lastly, all you wonderful people who favorite my posts, or comment, or otherwise support my writing whether here or at WCBR. It’s been an honor and a privilege.

This is obviously not a conclusive list, but it’s a start.

What about you? Is there anything that you’re particularly grateful for this year, especially in the world of comics? Let me know in comments.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and that you can find plenty to be thankful for this year.
